2020 – 2021 Penn Closet Director Team

ABOUT

Penn Closet is Penn Student Agencies’ newest agency. It was co-founded by Damien Koussis ‘20 and Zoe Weissberg ‘18 during the 2017-2018 Academic Year. Penn Closet received the Green Fund grant from Penn Sustainability Office in 2017.

Penn Closet Strives to provide the Penn community with a place to donate their unwanted clothes, books, and other small items for students to re-buy at highly discounted prices. We currently have shorts, pants, skirts, t-shirts, other tops, dresses, hats, shoes, bags, belts and other accessories for sale for both men and women. Other items include books or small household and office supplies.

We also want to provide a space for events related to sustainability and further campus engagement and awareness around sustainability.

LEADERSHIP ROLES

Each director has their own responsibilies that are paramount to the overall operations of the buisness. These roles are filled internally, as PSA strives to promote growth and promotion opportunites for all of its students. Executive Director

The Penn Closet Executive Director supports Penn Closet by overseeing the daily function and physical condition of the store, training and supervising all Store Associates, creating the shift schedule based on employee availability, coordinating events to educate the campus about sustainability, and collaborating with the Director of Marketing on the marketing initiatives for Penn Closet.

Perferred Experience

  • Seeking students who are passionate about sustainability, have a cheery and approachable demeanor, and are able to engage in conversation about sustainability and related issues.
  • Individuals who actively educate themselves (to at least a basic level) about waste and the impact of the textiles industry on the planet.
  • Must be reliable, organized, responsible, able to delegate tasks, able to act quickly and meet deadlines, responsive to email, and a self-starter who can take initiative.

Key Acquired Skills

  • Leadership: developed through guiding the employees and business toward a common goal.
  • Time Management: gained through learning how to accomplish academic and director responsibilities in a timely and organized manager for the duration of your employment.
  • Fiscal Management: gained through tracking and building revenue, following a budget, and making responsible spending decisions.
  • Entrprenuership

Marketing Director

The Penn Closet Director of Marketing supports Penn Closet by regulating methods of receiving donated items, overseeing the procedures to clean and price the donated goods, monitoring sales and financial summaries, and actively promoting opportunities for students to donate their items to the store.

  • Must be fluent in Photoshop and InDesign.

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES

Store Associate

The Penn Closet Store Associate supports the store by assisting in its daily functions, maintaining its physical condition, processing transactions and deposits, providing excellent customer service, sorting and cleaning inventory, and participating in different initiatives to engage the campus community.

  • Social Entrepreneurship Experience: as a recently created non-profit with an environmental mission, Penn Closet is the perfect introduction to a business model whose primary aim is to generate positive change and address a social issue.
  • Sustainable Business Practices: Penn Closet strives to be as green as possible in eve
    ry step of the way, from marketing to sourcing storefront items. As an employee, you will learn to solvent the typical obstacles of a small business in a way that does not compromise the planet nor its people.
  • Interpersonal Skills: as the main point of contact with our customers, you will develop crucial communication skills. You will also learn to work with a small team in which your voice is highly valued and impactful.
